Chimney repair
In addition to providing top-notch chimney cleaning, TexVents also does chimney repair. We clean and repair masonry units as well as pre-fabricated ones. They each have their own set of familiar ailments, and we’re adept at recognizing and repairing lots of them.
Masonry fireplaces, as their name describes, are usually made of brick, firebrick, or stone, or a combination of these. As a masonry fireplace ages, you may begin to see signs of age and usual wear. This may include receding or cracked mortar joints, softening mortar, cracked cement chimney crowns, broken bricks needing replacement, and more. TexVents can help with these issues.
Pre-fabricated fireplaces have their own set of needs, and we can handle these as well. Most often I’ll see broken or damaged refractory panels in the firebox. The bottom panel, also called the hearth, can usually be patched. But the vertical panels many times need to be replaced. If I can find an exact fit for your damaged refractory panel, I can order an exact replacement being the same size. More often that not, your manufacturer either has gone out of business or they do not offer exact fit panel replacements. In this case, I can order a larger “blank” panel and cut it to size with a masonry saw, then install it. Another issue is that chimney chase covers rust over time, and must be re-surfaced or they will develop holes and leak rainwater. I am quite familiar what it takes to re-surface, fill holes, and paint chase covers.
