Your appointment will begin with me being on time for your service. I will be nicely dressed, courteous, and listening to your concerns.
Chimney sweep appointments always begin with an inspection first. For all we know, your fireplace may not even be dirty. However, yearly inspections are recommended for all fireplaces, regardless of use. This is due to things that can easily escape your notice, such as weather-related damage and degradation, animal habitation, damage to caps by objects such as birds or limbs, or obstructions caused for any number of reasons.
Our first priority is your safety, and we take it seriously. That’s why I will perform a thorough top-to-bottom inspection of your entire chimney, including the outside construction on your roof. Caps, water seals, cement crowns, bricks, flashing, and the chimney chase are all inspected for soundness.

Fireplace cleaning, or chimney sweeping, will happen only if your fireplace is dirty enough
to warrant it. Otherwise, we only charge an inspection fee.
Inside, the firebox is checked for soot buildup, cracks, proper damper operation, and overall safe and proper functionality. With regard to soot buildup, we follow the Chimney Safety Institute of America’s recommendation of cleaning the fireplace at 1/8 inch of accumulation. Beyond that, you run the risk of having the kind of fire you don’t want in your fireplace.

Cleanings are thorough, neat, respectful of your home, and very clean. There will be no soot entering your home. Drop cloths are spread over the entire work area. Vacuums are placed outdoors in order to vent sooty exhaust away from your home. The fireplace is sealed in the front as we work to sweep up and down your chimney. After vertical cleaning of your flue, the firebox will be next, but always with the vacuum running in order to carry any soot away.
As always, I will report to you along the way, as well as when service is complete. You will always know what’s going on in your home with your service
